There is no perfect time. You may want to wait until the stars align, the birds sing, and the angels are whispering softly in your ear,” today is the day”. Reality check! You’ll be waiting for a long time, or even worse the time may never come. There is no perfect time to start something new. You sometimes just have to start.
That perfect time does not just apply to perfectionists. It applies to almost everyone I know in one form or another. Sure, it’s easy to wait for your “perfect timing” by making your favourite recipe of procrastination. Delivering those delightful appetizers. Making those wonderful little fancy bite-size excuses that are easy for you to swallow. Does this sound familiar?
“I don’t have the time“ or “I just have to learn one more skill”
“It’s the wrong season to launch my product”
“I will just wait until I am good enough”
“I got achieve this one more thing on my resume
I could go on, but I think you get the point . Perhaps you can see yourself in one or more of those statements? I know them well. At one point in my life I have used each and everyone of those.
Another way to look at the perfect timing issue is managing the fine balance between pursuing excellence and meeting deadlines. Those deadlines can be self-imposed or thrust upon us. Both are valid. A creative writer and high school teacher, Jackie Rioux said it best “I often remind my high achieving students that great is good, but done is better“. I am of the opinion and attitude … “get ‘er done!”
Often we think so much about doing something and procrastinate. When we actually get around to doing it, it was done so quickly. You then wonder why you waited so long to just do it!
We are all works in progress. The right time is now. Take baby step towards something you are working on. Right now! This very moment! Take some small step forward. Go ahead! I double-dog-dare ya! I dared myself and here we are.
That’s one of the reason this website is getting launched and this blog has been written. Am I ready ? NO! Could this be better? Faster? Stronger? Launched? Changed? Tweaked? and, Set up better? … YES… but the simple fact is it is done!
As my work “in progress” continues, I may later be embarrassed by this post. I am ok with that. It will show that I have grown! Part of the evolution. Part of the process. I have the guts and grit to put a stake in the ground. Claim this as mine!
